My rule is no more than three texts in a row without a reply. After three text messages, the ball is firmly in their court. Texter #2 is clearly unable or unwilling to respond for the time being.
So it’s frustrating when I send a text, and soon after send another one trying to make plans. Suddenly I’ve got one text left to someone who has a habit of taking days to respond. I don’t want to be pushy, but at the same time I’d like a “Yeah, sounds great” or “No, I’d rather bathe in lye.”
Being that texting is really emotionless way of communicating, it’s easy to read a lot in to a little. Because I know this person takes forever to respond, but there’s still that voice in the back of my head saying “You’re barking up the wrong tree” which I know is bullshit but apparently I only think is bullshit, because these lengthy gaps always make me second guess myself. I thought we really hit it off, but maybe it’s just that: I only thought we hit it off. And I’m wasting my energy?
I don’t usually put myself out there like this, so I don’t want to over-do it and come off as needy. Then again, maybe it would be worth breaking my rule just so I can get a confirmed “no” rather than sitting here mulling it over for days at a time.
